Most UCSF buildings employ an electronic door-lock system. This system relies on the use of ID cards to help us verify identification and limit access to authorized members of the UCSF community. By obtaining and wearing your approved ID card while on UCSF property, you can help us maintain the security of our campus community.
Access Card Information:

- LARC access requests and renewals: Contact LARC directly.
- IRRADIATOR access requests and renewals: Contact William Lew of EH&S.
- For events that require the unlocking of doors (after-hours and on weekends): Call CPFM WMC at 415/476-2021.
Access Request Procedure:
Unit/Division Managers may authorize and request perimeter building or interior proximity access for their employees and staff by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the following information:
- First and last names.
- EIN or the eight digits on the back of their existing ID cards.
- Actual access codes (if you know them) or specific buildings, doors and locations.
- For DPA and fund entry into ICRD for new or replacement ID cards, call 415/476-2088.
- To request information or to make an appointment (ID cards or LiveScan), call 415/476-2088.
For UCSF Campus Premises:
- All proximity cards are inactive when issued.
- After access is added, it takes approximately one hour for the card to become active.
- Replacement cards: Access on the previous card’s profile will automatically transfer over to the new card within one hour.
Access Policy
After-hours electronic access can be granted to persons who meet one of the following criteria:
- A person needing regular and ongoing access to a building after specified business hours or on weekends.
- A person having ongoing emergency responsibilities that require after-hours, weekend or holiday access to a building.
Note: If you do not meet the guidelines for after-hours access, you can enter at the main entrance of the building, present your UCSF ID card and sign in with security personnel.
