Emergency Preparedness Tip of the Week
It's easy to believe that having a plan is the key to an effective disaster response. We hear about it everywhere, and it's satisfying to check off "Have a Plan" from a crowded to-do list. But how often have we seen plans fail?
At UCSF, remember that having an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is only a small piece of the puzzle. The true backbone of an effective response is having the ongoing buy-in and commitment of resourceful, well-trained, empowered people, who are clear on their individual and collective roles and goals - and passionate about fulfilling them.
At UCSF that is your EAP Team: Emergency Coordinator, Floor wardens and alternates. Work to build up your people, so that they can act and succeed with even a flawed plan. Your people are the actors, directors, and crew who will take even a poorly written, ill-conceived, under-funded disaster script and turn it in to an award-winning, blockbuster victory for your worksite.
